Above the Snow Line by Sarah Lynch is a photographic investigation of the snow gums in the High Plains of the Victorian Alpine National Park.

Snow gums, the only trees that grow above the snow line, thrive in severe conditions, enduring snow, ice, and extreme winds. Yet these resilient trees face increasing threats from drought, bushfires, and wood-boring beetle infestations.

Lynch, known for her explorations of the botanical world and the intricate connections between plants, people, and ecosystems, conceived this photographic series during her residencies at the Bogong Centre for Sound Culture (B-CSC). Over two years, she documented the snow gums of Mount Hotham and Falls Creek, forging a deeper connection to the landscape whilst contributing to Save Our Snow Gums, a citizen science initiative monitoring snow gum dieback across the Australian Alps.

This exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the fragility and beauty of these iconic trees. Through Lynch's lens, the project underscores the urgent need to protect the snow gums, which stand as both a symbol of resilience and a warning of ecological vulnerability.

There will be an opening launch with light refreshments on January 18 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm.
